August 2004 This month was my 3-year anniversary and I continue to be extremely pleased with everything that has happened since the surgery. I still have never had any complications and I continue to eat about 1/3-sized meals. I can pretty much have anything at all now, with the exception still being ice cream. Just a couple of spoonfuls is the limit. And that's fine with me, because one of the things I like best since the surgery is that the thrill of eating is gone. Before, there would be this internal kind of anticipation/excitement when I was about to eat something yummy. Now... I can take it or leave it -- there's no longer a thrill associated with food. Sometimes I will see something that I haven't eaten in years and I say "oh, I gotta have one of those." Then when I go to eat it, it isn't the same anymore. I rarely end up finishing it. That, to me, is real freedom. My weight continues to fluctuate in a 5-pound range. This time last year I was 152 -- today I am 156, but it goes up and down so I never worry or obsess about it. I don't recall ever staying in the same size for 2+ years in a row but I'm still a size 10 (size 12 in jeans for some reason). It's great to know that whatever is in my closet will fit! There isn't much else to report on after three years. Best wishes to all who have had or are going to have the surgery :) |
