Five-Year Anniversary!
It's hard to believe that 5 years have gone by already
since my surgery. Although I will never forget what it was
like to be heavy, memories of being that way are starting
to fade a bit.
I no longer subconsciously stop at the larger size
sections in stores and I do not have any more instilled fear
that I won't fit when I make a plane reservation or sit down
in a bus seat.
I have an inner confidence that shows when I meet
new people because I know they are no longer immediately
judging me based on my size. I smile and say hello to people
and look them in the eyes, and they look back whereas before
both of us would usually look down.
Basically, I have settled into being a normal-sized
person.
My weight continues to fluctuate within a 10-pound
range which is fine. At 5 years out I am in the 160s which
is still a normal weight for my height. I would have liked
to have stayed within the 150s but my body has adjusted to
the surgery and now I do have to be more careful of what
I eat.
Thanks to everyone who has emailed their best wishes,
and best wishes to all of you who are just beginning this
journey.
