March 2001 Well only one month month to go before my initial consultation, which is April 18. I called to get on a waiting list to have the date moved up because of my current weight loss scenario (I have found out that if you are less than 100 lbs. overweight you lose your candidacy for the surgery) but so far no cancellations. Finding out that if I continue my weight loss I could disqualify myself for the surgery was a wierd disappointment. Here I am trying to get in the best shape possible so the surgery will go well and I will recover quickly, and by doing so I'm actually putting the whole thing in jeopardy. It almost seems ironic... "you've been morbidly obese all your life but now that you are eating healthier and exercising to be in shape for the surgery, you've lost too much weight and can't have the surgery..." It was also a disappointment to find out that weight history is not taken into account on the day of surgery - but rather your exact weight on that day. I didn't lose much last month (only 6 more lbs. as I now weigh 273), and I think I cannot lose more than 18 more pounds before I disqualify myself. And considering that they schedule surgery for 5 months after your initial consultation, I'm looking at staying at least 255 lbs. until August. This is a real bummer because I wanted to weigh around 230 this summer so I could do some of the things I've missed out on during the past few years when I was over 300 lbs., like to going Six Flags and taking a vacation to see my friends in Indianna. :( I know those extra 25 lbs. make the difference in being able to fit on the rides and in the plane seats comfortably. So unless I get a cancellation and they can move everything up for me.... I don't have any choice but to slow down the weight loss. How wierd. |
