May 2002
Lots of little things to report for this month.
First, the weight loss increased again. I was hoping that would
happen now that I've become more active outside. I'm playing on
my company's softball team in addition to volleyball once a week,
and my Honey and I are riding our bicycles together.
I can't believe how easily I bruise now! Before there was so much
padding that I rarely got a black & blue, but now all it takes
is a little bang on my shin or arm and it hurts. It's very odd to
feel bones all over my body -- I've never felt them before! The
sensation of feeling my hip bones when I slide my pants on or feeling
my shoulder blades when I scratch my back is so foreign (but it
feels great!).
And speaking of softball, the first baseman of my opposing team
the other night kept tagging me out then staring at me with a funny
look. I figured he was just flirting or something. He followed me
out after the game and asked my why knees were bandaged.
I told him I had bad knees from being heavy and I just lost a lot
of weight so I wrap them up to keep them from caving in when I play.
He told me he just lost a lot of weight too, then looked at me and
said "did you have a gastric bypass?"
Pretty neat, because so did he. We yakked up a storm on how wonderful
it feels to be able to hit a ball and run, and we both love those
Zone bars (excellent protein bars). So that was neat running into
another gastric patient who's been freed :)
At 167, I have now officially gone into the "normal"
weight range! I hope to level out anywhere in the 150s, but for
the first time in my life I am not classified as overweight. Woo
hoo!!!!
