Here is a list of some great support and information resources I have found on WLS: Yahoo Groups (formerly egroups and onelist): This is an e-mail-based group where your e-mail gets sent to the list for everyone to read and reply to. I have met many friends there – people who have had the surgery, people who are about to have it, and people who are thinking about it. This e-mail list has been a great support for me. Obesity Help: Lots of information, support, physicians listed by state, questions & answers from people who are wanting or have already had the surgery. Calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI). Spotlight Health: Excellent resource! This is the site that hosted Carnie Wilson's successful bariatric surgery. Complete descriptions of the surgery, videos of it, detailed explanations, and support groups. American Society for Bariatric Surgery (ASBS): Has some history on the surgery and lists doctors who are members of the society. Gastric Bypass Surgery Types: Descriptions of various procedures. American Obesity Association: Obesity issues, education, treatment.
